SPORT DESIGNATED SAFEGUARDING OFFICER
Every Sports Club, District, Provincial and National Office must have at least one Designated Safeguarding Officer
Whether the members are training, competing or socialising, every sports club, District, Provincial or National Office must appoint, train and empower a DSO, to ensure the Safeguarding Policy is being adhered to and that members know how they can access assistance.
SPORT SAFEGUARDING AWARENESS CERTIFICATE
This basic course is vital for every person who is employed or volunteers in any position in any sports club.
This Basic 2 - 3 hour Safeguarding Awareness Course (Which is SASCOC endorsed) ensures that any person, volunteering or employed in any capacity in any sports environment whether at school or in a club or any other sporting capacity has a basic understanding of safeguarding.
ON-TOUR DESIGNATED SAFEGUARDING OFFICER
There are very specific duties required of a DSO whilst on tour.
Whether you are taking athletes or learners on tour, there are very real requirements that need to be considered. Every Sports / School tour should have an appointed, trained and empowered DSO, who is responsible for the safeguarding whilst on that tour.
EVENT-HOSTING DESIGNATED SAFEGUARDING OFFICER
The DSO responsible for the safeguarding of an event has a very different responsibility to a team or club DSO
Whether you are the host country, team or club, you must ensure that you appoint a Tournament DSO who has the experience and understanding of all requirements pertaining to Pre-Event Safeguarding, In-Event Reactive and Proactive Safeguarding Measures and Post - Event Safeguarding.
SCHOOL DESIGNATED SAFEGUARDING OFFICER
Every School should appoint, train and empower staff who will be responsible for safeguarding within the school.
Most schools address safeguarding reactively. School Counsellor/ Psychologist etc. Safeguarding is about preventing. A School DSO is responsible primarily for implementing proactive Safeguarding mechanisms to ensure the school meets their Duty Of Care.
SCHOOL SAFEGUARDING AWARENESS CERTIFICATE
Every educator, administrator, sports coach, extra mural teacher, volunteer or groundsman should have a basic understanding of safeguarding.
"Safeguarding is a process not an action" - M. Hardwick. Education is the start of that process. Schools should make it policy that every educator has a basic understanding of safeguarding.
INFORMAL VOLUNTEERS - SAFEGUARDING AWARENESS CERTIFICATE
It is common practice to allow parents to assist with training of their children at schools and clubs.
Allowing parents to be part of the school / Club coaching and mentoring is so valuable for children however, it is important that all volunteers are aware that school or club have rules pertaining to safeguarding and they need to adhere to those rules .
TRAVELING CHILDREN - SAFEGUARDING AWARENESS CERTIFICATE
Children come from different cultures and backgrounds and will have all been exposed to different experiences. This makes Safeguarding on tour really difficult.
Acceptable behaviour in one child's home may be different from what is acceptable in another child's home. Those 2 behaviours may be different from what is acceptable to the chaperone / coach or teacher. It is important that all children on tour are aware of the safeguarding rules before leaving.
